Change your mind, change your life. Take control!

Recently I had an MRI scan, for the first time in my life. Fortunately the results were normal. I have successfully used Cognitive Hypnotherapy to help clients with anxiety around health issues, many of whom were facing scary medical procedures, treatments or tests. So when I found I needed the MRI I decided to practise what I preach.

I didn't fancy the idea of lying still in a metal tube at all so I decided I would shut my eyes and go somewhere else... My bed. The surface I was lying on was comfortable... And I was tired anyway. So I imagined I was going to sleep... I focussed on the contact between my back and the "mattress" and noticed how supportive that felt... And I forgot about the tube above me... It didnt really matter. Anyway it worked.. And I ended up getting irritated by the scanners who kept interrupting my sleep by asking me to breathe in and out.

It is easier than you might think to simply distract yourself from something you don’t like . I'm not too keen on the dentist ( hygienist even worse - but that is another story!) so when I found Andrew who had a TV screen on the ceiling I was really happy. Even better, he put a Shaun the Sheep video on while he was doing my filling and I laughed through the drill.

Sometimes we need help to do this... To release see things learn effective self help techniques so that it is easier to manage our thinking and our responses to things. And that is another reason why I love what I do.

Years ago I worked with a client who had cancer and was terrified of radiotherapy because she thought that being positioned and made to lie completely still was like being "nailed " to the bed. Together we reframed her negative concept and she imagined herself in the south of France, enjoying lying in the sun. With the help of a bespoke hypnotherapy script she sailed through her treatment.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a brilliant way to address fears, manage difficult situations ( and people!) and reduce anxiety. It helps you to feel in control and reduces resistance, which makes everything so much easier and more comfortable.
